The Mind of the Messiah: Walking in What You Already Have Sermon Series 108
What does it mean to already possess something and yet still be learning how to use it? That is the tension at the heart of this powerful closing message in the Renewing of the Mind series. Drawing from 1 Corinthians 2:6-16, we are confronted with one of the most striking declarations in all of scripture -- that we have the mind of the Messiah. Not that we will have it someday, not that we are working toward it, but that we have it right now, in this present moment. The message does not let us sit comfortably with that truth without also holding up a mirror. Just one page later in the same letter, the same people are described as spiritually immature, unable to receive solid teaching, still feeding on milk. The evidence of that immaturity? Envy, strife, and division among brothers and sisters. This is not a contradiction -- it is an invitation. We are called to understand that possessing the mind of Christ and learning to walk in it are two different things, much like having a car with a corrected alignment versus learning to trust that the wheel will hold steady when you let go. The Holy Spirit is the one who knows the deep things of God, and he has been given to us precisely so we can access what would otherwise be completely hidden from human understanding. The journey of faith is not about earning what we already have -- it is about learning, day by day, to trust the one who gave it to us.
