Justifed or Condemned by your words

This powerful teaching confronts us with a sobering truth: our words are not merely sounds that dissipate into the air; they are evidence that will be presented when we stand before God. Drawing from Matthew 12:33-37, we're challenged to understand that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Just as a tree is known by its fruit, we are known by our words. The teaching uses vivid imagery: the heart as a storehouse and the mouth as a teller window that pays out whatever has been deposited inside us. Every idle, useless, or harmful word, what the Aramaic calls 'melapatala', will require an account. This isn't about condemning casual conversation, but about recognizing that lazy and harmful speech are the same category in biblical thinking. There is no neutral ground; our words either build up life or tear it down. The most challenging aspect is that we cannot excuse our words by saying we were tired, angry, or joking. Our speech reveals the true condition of our hearts and whether our faith is genuine. This teaching calls us to examine what we're depositing into our hearts daily, what we watch, read, listen to, and dwell on, because those deposits will inevitably overflow through our mouths. The good news is that God has already chosen life for us and shown us the way through His Word.
